7 Best Tricks for Food Bloggers
Buy a Little More Food than You Need
Remember that food can change its appearance under the influence of external factors. Sliced apples will darken, oranges will dry out, and garnishes will become weathered. If you don’t get the perfect shot the first time, you’ll have to redo it. More of it than planned will help even after a few tries to get a really incredible picture.
Use Fake Ice
Beginners mistakenly think that taking a photo is a matter of seconds. In fact, it can take a couple of hours. During this time, the ice can melt and turn into water, especially if you’re shooting indoors. You don’t want that, do you? Then get some fake ice! It will help you out in hot weather. In addition, this ice will last for several years, so it’s a great cost-effective solution.
Use Fake Drinks
How luxurious a beautiful dish looks next to a glass of red or white wine! However, if you see such a picture, you know that the drink is probably not real. Many food bloggers use this trick to save money. For example, real red wine looks too dark to look good in the picture. Instead, photographers simply pour water into the glass and add a few drops of food coloring to it.
There are a few tricks for taking the steam off tea or coffee, too:
i. Shoot against a dark background, otherwise, you won't be able to see the steam.
ii. Place the cup where the steam should be and place it on the surface. Place a smaller dish behind it. It is very important that it is not visible in the camera.
iii. Boil water and pour it into the smaller dish.
Pay Attention to the Products
If you see a mouth-watering chicken in the frame, know that it’s probably undercooked. If you cook it properly, the skin will wrinkle quickly and you won’t have time to take the picture. The same goes for vegetables. They are simply blanched so they don’t look overcooked. After they are taken out, they are simply dipped in ice water to bring back the freshness of the colors. The dressing should be added at the very last moment. Otherwise, the lettuce leaves will not look fresh, on the contrary, they will wilt very quickly.
How to Make Burgers Incredible
Sometimes the burgers look sloppy in the photo, but they are still appetizing. It takes a lot of effort to achieve that effect. Remember that burgers should always look neat. If you bought several of them, use the ones that don’t have dents on them. If the bun has torn edges, cut them off.
Keep the lettuce in ice water until you are ready to place it on the burger. Before putting it on, place it on a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.
Remember that tomatoes contain a lot of liquid. If they touch the bun, it will immediately look ugly. To prevent this, put a small piece of paper between the tomato and the bun.
Take square pieces of cheese. They look best in the frame. As for the height of the burger, there’s a trick, too. You can put pieces of paper between the layers, and then it will look much taller. Use toothpicks to keep the burger from falling apart.
Improve Your Soups
Soups can look very simple in the frame. Food bloggers often use additional ingredients to make it look more interesting. Croutons or bread are great. Even a few crumbs can liven up an image!
To show the viewer more than what is in the frame, you can add extras. A ladle, tablecloth, or saucepan in the background can tell the story of a photo without words.
If you want to keep it simple, add a handful of condiments on top. You can also use sprigs of herbs. Remember that they lose their appearance quickly, so replace them as soon as they start to fade.
Making Desserts Bright and Beautiful
Baked goods often look dull, but don’t feel bad – there is a way to liven them up. You can always add maple syrup or jam to pancakes to make them brighter. You can put berries – raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries – on top of the muffins. You can also sprinkle them with grated chocolate.
Instead of ice cream, tinted mashed potatoes are often used. It retains its shape and does not melt. If you want to use ice cream, freeze the dish where it will lie.
