As the best ViewSonic Monitor VX2457-MHD is a 1080p monitor with a decent picture quality and a refresh rate of 75Hz to support light one of the best gaming monitor. Viewsonic has cut a few corners to keep the price low. Nonetheless this might be a monitor worth considering especially since it puts up a good gaming performance. Let’s take a deeper look.

Best ViewSonic Monitor for Gaming: Image quality

Any monitor is primarily judged by its visual quality and this monitor pretty much reaches the benchmark. Packed with 1920 x 1080 pixels the monitor displays crisp images.

It uses FRC (Frame Rate Control) to render an increased number of color tones. The color reproduction is nothing to rave about. Traditionally TN panels have lacked in providing accurate color reproduction and the Viewsonic VX2457-mhd is no exception.

This discrepancy makes it less capable of carrying out color-critical professional grade work. IPS panels offer better color reproduction and are therefore more suitable for color critical work. That said, this monitor’s image quality matches with other monitors available in this price bracket.

The monitor has a surprisingly high peak brightness rating of 300 cd/m2 that makes it well suited for use in brightly lit rooms. The VX2457-mhd boasts a contrast ratio of 1050:1. Put together the  brightness and contrast level ratings allow the monitor to render deep blacks and accurate whites.

The heightened contrast is helpful in differentiating between objects of dark colors during night scenes in the gameplay. Contrast is vital when playing games like Witcher3 which are typically set in dark environments.

It is best to use the monitor by sitting right in front of the screen, because of the poor viewing angles. The display looks good as long as you’re looking at the monitor square-on. However those sitting at the sides will have to suffice with washed-out images.

The display has minor issues with color uniformity especially closer to the right and left edges.  However, it is by no means a deal-breaker.

The monitor uses a TN panel that assures higher refresh rates, a low response time and low input lag, making it a suitable choice for gaming. Apart from gaming, the monitor puts up a decent multimedia performance with nice color tones and good picture clarity.

Best Gaming Monitor: Performance

Unlike most of the gaming monitors in this price bracket that offer a refresh rate of 60 hz, the Viewsonic VX2457-mhd 1920×1080 24” runs at 75 Hz . It also supports AMD FreeSync Technology to reduce motion artifacts.

Note: FreeSync is supported over display port and not HDMI.

The screen display looks tear and judder free thanks to Freesync technology. For a budget monitor the VX2457 outputs an excellent response time of 2 ms. The monitor provides low input lag during fast action, when the option for Response Time is set to “Standard” along with Low Input mode. However this can lead to minor ghosting.

As said earlier the color uniformity deviates towards the edges and the display looks like losing its color grid when seen from different angles. Unfortunately this problem becomes worse when the response time is set to Fast and low input mode is selected.

The monitor’s dark scene performance is commendable. The added support from the Black Stabilization feature improves visibility in the dark making it easier to spot enemies.

Performance wise this is a good gaming monitor under 150.

Best Gaming Monitor: Features

Viewsonic has ensured that gaming for longer sessions does not strain the eye by installing the VX2457 with blue light filter technology and flicker free technology.

The monitor also provides a variety of preset modes to choose from  for gaming and nongaming purposes.

The color, brightness, volume and contrast settings can be accessed at the press of a button. There are a total of 6 buttons placed at the back on the right bottom of the panel for this purpose. Unfortunately, The buttons do not have clear indications on them and are placed awkwardly so the users might find it difficult to use them.

The monitor’s On Screen Display comes with several options to configure the view according to personal taste or preferences. Options for setting response time, contrast, temperature, brightness, RGB adjustment, audio, view mode, adaptive-sync and other such settings related to OSD can be seen on the display screen.

Best Gaming Monitor: Design and build quality

Let’s begin with the stand. The stand is a bit wobbly and also provides poor ergonomic support. It does not support swivel, pivot or height adjustment and can only tilt the monitor forward and backward by 23 degrees. There are four mounting holes at the back so that the monitor can be wall mounted in case you don’t plan to use the stand.

The screen has a matt finish and this helps in preventing reflection. Apart from some parts, the monitor has a stylish gray matt look. At its base the monitor has glossy plastic that shows dirt and fingerprints quite easily. .

There is a Kensington lock slot for securing the monitor against theft.

The monitor also comes with in-built 2W speakers but the sound is quite underwhelming to enjoy the gaming sessions at the fullest and the sound also starts to distort when the volume is turned high so it is recommended to use speakers or headphones separately.

At the back side of the monitor, towards the left side of the monitor under the mounting bulge there are ports for power cable, displayport, HDMI , headphones, speakers and VGA inputs for flexible connectivity.

The shipped package contains LCD display, Power cable (1.5m), Audio cable (1.5m), VGA cable (1.5m) and a guide book.

Final Thoughts

The biggest plus is the best viewsonic monitor’s budget price. At under 150 dollars this is not a bad bargain. Yes there are a few cons but the monitor’s gaming performance is up to the mark and we shouldn’t forget that Viewsonic has marketed this as a gaming monitor.

As for me, I would prefer a 75Hz monitor with an IPS panel over a TN panel anyday. That ensures better color reproduction and a good enough refresh rate for light gaming. You are free to make your choice.
