Detecting your location many apps can use the data for different purposes.

Here we will learn how to turn off your location on android or iOS.

Location services are one of the most necessary permissions you can give or deny on your phone.

Maps rely on location services to provide you with directions; they don’t know where you are otherwise. You can’t order a cab without enabling location services.

If you don’t allow them, many app functions will be compromised if not fully disabled.

For example, Yelp will request your location to find restaurants in your area. As long as you allow it, it will keep tracking your location.

Location services have their downsides. They enable ad targeting and profiling and compromise user privacy overall.

It is simple to turn off location services on Android and on an iPhone.

How to turn off your location on Android devices?

  • Open your device’s Settings app.
  • Scroll down and select “Location.”
  • Toggle off the “Use location” or “Location access” option.

Alternatively, you can turn off location services for specific apps:

  • Open your device’s Settings app.
  • Scroll down and select “Apps & notifications.”
  • Choose what apps you want to turn off location services for.
  • Select “Permissions.”
  • Toggle off the “Location” option.

How to turn off location on iOS devices?

  • Open your device’s Settings app.
  • Select “Privacy.”
  • Select “Location Services.”
  • Toggle off the “Location Services” option.

Alternatively, you can turn off location services for specific apps:

  • Open your device’s Settings app.
  • Select “Privacy.”
  • Select “Location Services.”
  • Scroll down and select the app you want to turn off location services for.
  • Select “Never” or “While Using the App.”

You can always turn location services back on if you choose.

Issues with location services on Android – and solutions

If you have chosen to enable location services on Android, you might have noticed issues now and then. Here are the solutions to common problems.

Network connection problems

Issues with your network connection can impair location services. Toggle the Airplane mode to eliminate minor issues and refresh your wireless connections.

Failure to determine location

If your phone can’t pinpoint your location, you’ll have problems using Google Maps, Uber, and other apps. Enable Google Location Accuracy to fix this.

Your phone will be able to scan cell towers, nearby Wi-Fi networks, and other facilities to determine your location.

Your phone’s communication with GPS servers might fail if the time or date needs to be corrected. To avoid discrepancies, set your phone to the network-provided date and time.

Use safe mode

If you’re still having issues with location services, put your phone in this mode to disable all superfluous services and third-party apps. This way, you’ll determine if an app is causing the problem.

Worst apps to have on your phone

Regarding privacy, it’s scary how much phones know about people. Your phone knows where you work, where you live, where you go on vacation, who your friends are, and what messages you send. Many apps have all this information too, but some know more than others.

Facebook tracks users across all its sites and apps, making it the worst app for privacy. It asks for an extensive list of permissions, such as:

  • Your contacts, call logs, and text messages
  • Your internal storage
  • Your camera and microphone
  • Your Wi-Fi and location

Facebook tracks your browsing, what you buy, and where you go to deliver targeted ads. It has been associated with a number of data breaches.

Facebook Messenger ranks among the terrible apps for privacy as well because it does not make use of end-to-end encryption.

Your messages are most likely stored on their servers in plain text. Any Facebook employee can access them.

Weather apps are among the worst offenders. Obviously, they need to know your location to tell you what the weather will be like there.

After you give permission, the apps begin tracking you around the clock. They sell this information to advertisers, which poses risks to your phone’s privacy and security.

Apps to watch out for include WeatherBug, AccuWeather, and the Weather Channel App.

Weather apps sell information such as where people work, how they get to work, which gym they go to, and who their doctors are.

Beyond weather apps, all apps that share information about new restaurants in the area, events in the city, or local news are risky to have on your phone. They are usually trying to get your data so they can sell it to advertisers.

Hope now you know how to turn off your location on android or iOS. If you have any issues with turning of location service, you can let us know in the comment box below.
