Do you realize the rise of AI around the world? Innovation gives us a better quality of life and overcomes business and societal challenges.

But the impact of new technology is often unpredictable because people use new tech in ways their inventors did not foresee. Technology can inadvertently create serious dilemmas.

For example, the Internet was designed to transmit information between computer networks, but it quickly expanded to bring the benefits of international commerce and economic prosperity.

On the flip side, it also introduced a super-highway for crime and financial fraud and the age of surveillance capitalism, where companies use people’s private information to make money.

Social media platforms were intended to connect friends and families but have become massive global battlegrounds for political influence, controversies, and crime. Internet users must find refuge in banning privacy-invasive apps like TikTok and using privacy-preserving tools such as NordVPN bundle deals.

But the advent of AI means that tech innovation is set to leap forward at even greater speeds than ever before. It will pose even greater dangers to our data and force us to take extra measures to protect our privacy.

The rise of AI will accelerate every aspect of technological advances

Up until a few months ago, it was easy to miss the potential impact that artificial intelligence (AI) could have on new technology until the introduction of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT to the general public changed all that.

Since then, tech companies have doubled down on efforts to be the first to integrate AI into their every product or service. We can already see AI’s hand across industries as diverse as robotics, military, medical training and treatments, entertainment, gaming, advanced visualization methods, smart homes, training, and education.

  • Facial recognition technology is seeing significant advancements. AI uses ever-larger data sets and improved methods to enhance accuracy and reduce bias.
  • Low-code/No-code technologies make it easier for anyone to use AI without writing computer code.
  • In the robotics and automation technology fields, AI is improving the capabilities and efficiency of robots to perform more complex tasks.
  • AI is driving significant advancements in the integration of Human-Computer Interfaces. Wearable devices, smart clothes, and robotic prosthetics will improve by leaps and bounds.
  • Changes in the data analysis industry will have an impact on many unrelated industries. AI can process massive volumes of data and can spot patterns that humans might miss. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a prime example of the type of industry where AI can make a significant difference. It can analyze the vast amounts of data generated by IoT devices to improve their functionality and enable new applications.
  • AI’s ability to spot patterns in large amounts of data makes it ideal for cybersecurity. It can improve threat detection, vulnerability assessment, and malware detection. On the flip side, criminals are already using AI to improve phishing techniques and automate hacking.
  • AI’s data analysis capabilities are also used for personalization in marketing and advertising. Companies like Amazon use AI to spot buying signals and tailor product recommendations. Facebook uses dynamic creative optimization, where ads adapt according to the user’s taste and preference. It’s unsettling that companies like Facebook and Google sell their users’ private data to third parties who use it for targeted advertising or more nefarious purposes like stalking or identity theft.
  • AI is being used to improve the safety and reliability of self-driving cars. Real-time decision-making has always been an elusive goal in this industry, but AI increases the ability of vehicles to navigate complex environments autonomously. True self-driving cars are much closer than we think.
  • AI mimics human behavior, and so far, creativity is still seen as strictly a human skill. But AI can already design logos, write songs, create images, and write. AI will improve and become better at creative tasks, even if it lacks “true” intelligence.

We’re in for an exciting, scary time.

Clearly, the rise of AI, new technology brings as many threats as benefits. While AI is offering businesses the opportunity to boost productivity and maximize profits in exciting new ways, we should remember that new tech means new attack surfaces that could make businesses vulnerable to threats.

We’ll have to walk a tightrope of change to mitigate risks without missing out on potentially beneficial innovations. Privacy protection will become critical in an age where AI will creep into all our services.
